We collected the caravan on Thursday morning to 30th and blocking up the road opposite our house so we could turn it to get in to the drive and we had achieved this in less than 90 minutes after collecting it from the Chertsey storage site and bringing it home. Later in the day Jennifer returned from lunch with her usual monthly lunch group whilst Noel worked on the getting the caravan and car ready for travel.
Preparations continued into 31st May which was also our 48th Wedding anniversary which we celebrated with a glass of nice wine and Pork Stir fry for dinner. On Saturday morning by around 11.00 we were ready to leave and so of we went down the M3/A303 and onwards to Glastonbury Old Oaks Caravan site which is part of a chain called Tranquil Camping which is all about Adult Only sites. The journey was not to bad but going via Stonehenge where the Westbound traffic was slow but the Eastbound was a disaster with a standing queue of about 4/5 miles. ( was just wondering was Stonehenge named before or after the put up the stones?) and after a brief stop for a sandwich lunch we arrived at the caravan site around 14.30 so not bad timing really considering the delay on the A303.
The site is set in the middle of the countryside and it is a narrow lane you have to go down hence why they say you must depart by 12.00 and not arrive prior to 13.00 to ensure two caravan do not meet head on, not a nice thing. We were shown our site location and it was fantastic, perhaps the best caravan site we have ever been on, and the facilities are first class and the toilet blocks worthy of any five star hotel. We have a nice view over the valley although due to the low flying clouds you cold not see all of the Mendip hills properly. We set up the caravan with water, electric and got the Loo ready and then had a cup of tea in the hot sunshine as it was around 26 degrees Centigrade so just right for a BBQ.
Son in the evening with the BBQ set up we had a rib eye steak and Cumberland sausage with salad sitting outside overlooking the view with a glass of wine, really excellent, not a bad life really. In the evening we watched the European Cup being played in Madrid with Tottenham and Liverpool playing. The on site Wi-Fi was not fast enough to carry the match so Noel had brought his MiFi ( Mobile Wi-Fi) and then got the notebook computer connected to both the TV via an HDMI cable and then attached to the wireless network and the picture was fine even if the game was not. The game was nowhere near the standard that either team could play and what with Liverpool getting a questionable penalty two minutes from the start put Tottenham on the back foot from which they never seem to recover.
And so to bed and we were both looking foreword to our first night kip as we usually sleep extremely well in the caravan sometimes better than when we are at home.
Tomorrow we will explore the site.
