Invercargill to Stewart Island

Our ferry from Bluff was at 1130 am which left us a reasonable time to drive there and grab some food shopping en-route. We had read somewhere that as we were going to be on an Island with only one small supermarket food might be a problem, hence our quick shop.

The journey on the Catamaran Ferry took about an hour and we arrived a bit late at just about one clock lunchtime. We were met at the ferry port and taken to the motel by van, a 4 minute drive, boy this town is small. After a quick lunch we headed down town to look at arranging boat trips and also a trip to an Island called ULVA which has an amazing range of birds. We have also booked a trip on a semi submersible boat to get a better look at the bright coloured fish that live here. So tomorrow we will be a little bit busy as we have to move Motels after just one night.

After making the booking we walked around the town in about 90 seconds flat, yep there is not much to see here unless you like nature.

We have noticed here and also several other places in the South island that people have special roofs on their houses to collect the rainwater which is then filtered for day to day use.

This is a good idea and something that should be used in more places around the world.

Whilst watching the TV news tonight there was an item on the amount of Kiwis leaving the country for better things overseas and Australia was the top country followed by UK. Perhaps when I get to Auckland I will take a soapbox in the main square and tell the truth about living in Gordon Browns England. Actually I have a strong belief that Neil Blair, another Scotsman followed by Gordon Brown have used their power to ruin the UK and allow the Scottish Economy to flourish with lots of British money moving North. On the other hand with so many people leaving NZ there is plenty of opportunity here for those who are looking for a better quality of life.

Anyway that’s enough of that. The weather for tomorrow looks good so our boat trips should be great.

This Motel Internet connection is dismal, mostly not working and so these reports will be running a little late.
