Russel to Doubtless Bay

The sun was shining as we left Russel and so we headed to the hills behind the town to take some more photographs before heading for the ferry.

Thank god, there was no sign of the promised rain as we drove about 70 kilometres to Brian & Sheila’s house. The journey was very nice through countryside with occasional glances of the sea.

We arrived at about midday and had a nice light lunch whilst overlooking the bay. In the afternoon, we were taken on a drive to a high vantage point where you could get a good view of the bay and also Brian boat in the harbour below.

It was such a lovely day that we headed out of town to a Vinery where of all things we all had a cup of coffee as we were planning to hit the beach for a swim.

The beach was about half a mile long and packed with four people The changing rooms and toilets there were immaculate so we were able to change in comfort. The water at first was a little cold but after a while seemed to warm up unless you stopped swimming then it felt cold again but it was totally refreshing.

We went back to the house for a dip in the hot tub, followed by a great BBQ which Brian cooked and Sheila, Tess (Brian’s sister) and Jennifer preparing salads etc. Noel took the lead with Brian by checking on the wine.

A really lovely day and we retired to bed after a long day.
