With little or no chance to visit Athens due to the road issues caused by the cycle race it was a good day to have a nice day by the pool. Today about 100 guests, perhaps more, left the ship during the first part of the morning and to secure a nice spot by the pool was a doddle. We hade breakfast on the patio with two bacon sarnies from the Colonnade Restaurant and together with some nice English breakfast tea it was good.
I may have referred to my ‘lurgi’ during the past few days and it appears to have gone as two days ago I changed from the the ships water to Evian still bottled water and stayed away from the scrambled egg has made a big difference and today I felt I was up for most things. We found two rather comfortable, almost a settee, by the side of the poo, and Jennifer spent some hours on her sewing whilst Noel listened to his music and we passed the morning that way. Lunch we had on the patio where they do nice nice really fresh salads and so I had one with Mahi Mahi fish and prawns which was very nice. Jennifer seemed to have a bit of everything looking at the size of the plate contents.
During the afternoon we noticed what appeared to be a small amount of ‘newbies’ walking around the ship and also several new crew members, even the Captain has left and there is a new one so we hope he knows what to do. Unfortunately the F1 Monaco race was not on TV so Noel followed the results on his Formula One App but not like the real thing which is being recorded at home for later viewing. WE both had a go at swimming and enjoying the hot tub before a little more rest but at around 1600 we headed back to the cabin for a small afternoon zizz. At 1800 we went for an early evening drink before heading to the main restaurant for dinner which seemed quite deserted and later we understood why as more guests departed the ship that joined and there are now only 215 people on boars plus crew compared to around 300 before. As we sat down to dinner a new Maitre D came and introduced himself and apologised for last nights screw up on dinner, they brought a nice steak covered in onions after a long delay of about 30 minutes and then the spinach and chips arrived but no steak and so I ate the chips and waited for the steak which was good but would have been better with the chips and spinach. Anyway he apologised for the error and offered for us to go to the ‘Retreat’ which is a special deck on the ship where you have special little rooms and your own waiter and swimming pool etc AND AT NO COST which would normally charge around $160 per person to which we gratefully accepted and also pointed out that we had already booked for the 31st but they said don't worry we will change to no charge, which always sound good.
After dinner we went to the Seabourn square to enjoy some quiet time with a cup of tea, this area is like your lounge but it also the hub of the ship for information and the location of Guest Services, the Shops and also a tea and coffee bar and finally booking for future cruises. Having enjoyed the tea and not wanting two late nights we returned to the cabin where Noel finished up the blogs for yesterday and today.
Having watched some reports about the shootings in Texas and hearing Trumps statement at the NRA that "good guys with guns will always beat the bad guys with guns" only it did not work here. No amount of laws will stop a madman who is not known to the police purchasing weapons used by the army and the only way is a complete ban on guns but hat will never happen in USA. The idea of arming teachers in the event of a gunman going in to a school is a nightmare in the making.
