We left the Hotel around 10.30 and visited ACE Hardware for some baggage locks and then out to the coast with a view to heading South and ending up in Coral Gables South of Miami for dinner with an old business colleague that we have not seen for years..
The traffic got steadily worse as we neared North Miami and then we came upon the reason for this slow driving due to the ‘Miami Boat Show’ which went on for it seems like miles and their must have been more than a billion dollars in boats lined up alongside. There were shuttle buses and road blocks and entertainment centres and literally hundreds of police adding to the chaos. So welcome to Miami. North Beach and South beach were packed with tourists and with the temperature around 28 Degrees Centigrade we decided it would be to warm to walk about and as we were going to a nice restaurant later in the evening in Coral Gables we did not want to arrive a little sweaty. Leaving Miami and the chaos we headed of to Key Biscayne which we thought would be a quieter place to be onto to find ‘part two’ of the Miami Boat Show and so so the Police were creating more chaos again. Oh well somebody got some money.
We then headed early for Coral Gables because of the traffic and we arrived about an hour early and so decided to visit the Biltmore Hotel which we walked around for a while and took some photos. Must stay here sometime, if we can afford it but it is a minimum of $500.00 per night, phew not cheap, but if you have zee cash, well then….
We moved on to the restaurant where we had a great dinner with an ex business colleague of Noel and finally departed there at about 9.30 pm perhaps with a 45 minute drive back to the Hotel only things did not go to plan as the road we were heading for had road works and the entrance ramp had been closed and so we followed the diversion signs which sent us totally in the wrong direction and on to TOLL ROADS which was the last thing we wanted. What with the number plate readers flashing every few minutes and the SAT NAV saying go this way and the road signs, sometimes non excitant saying go this way we got a little lost and took to the side roads to start again. However what this has done is moved us further south where were able to join the road we wanted but they were resurfacing it and there were massive queues, oh boy just what we needed,
We finally made it back at about 2300 , later than we wanted but Hey Ho, what can you do.
And so to bed
PS this the last of the blog until we get home
